Definitely ... that trilogy has a foundation upon the classical fairy tale design. Furthermore, there is very little foul language and lucidious activity. The violence in the movie is not overwhelming, and you can tell who are the heroes and villains. The best part is the overwhelming sense of satisfaction at the very end of this set of movies.
A 5-year-old would enjoy thess movies for the action, adventure, and characters in the films. You won't have to worry about any of the concerns that you may have with more modern movies that have been released.

I have a newborn son and I was just thinking about this topic this morning actually. I am a huge fan of the orginal Star Wars trilogy as I myself grew up watching them and fell in love with the movies. I want my son to also enjoy the movies but was thinking to myself what a good age would be for him to see them for the first time. I think 5 years old is the perfect age. Just make sure you watch it with him and answer any questions he has about it. You can also talk to him about any of the violence in it, though the violence is quite mild really. That is, no blood and guts or excessive shooting.

You are never to young to learn the ways of the force. But, the younger they are, the easier it is for them to be tempted by the power of the dark side. If the 5yr old starts to like the Empire more than the republic, there might be an underlying reason there, and that might not be good. Although it was the Palpatine that said something like: to be truly strong in the Force, one must know the benefits and disadvantages of both the Dark and Light sides of the Force.

Aboslutly, my 3 year old brother loves them, he can already name most of the major caracters and identify alot of the ships, he makes me so proud. They even make star wars toys intended for kids around age 5. My brother really likes the lightsabers and aliens and ships, he actually asks to watch star wars

Not really. Not that it is inappropriate though. Just that most wouldn't likely fully get it and do they have the attention span to sit through it?
