The housing for my air filter is cracked badly. I went to the ford dealer and got a ridiculous quote. I went to several junkyards and find that all of the windstars are gutted already.
A jiffy lube worker suggested I forget trying to find a box and go with KN&N filter.

Can I do this myself?
Does it simply connect to the mass air flow assembly?
What about the air intake tube that used to fit into the air filter box?

i don't recommend using a oil soaked air filter on fords with a mass air flow sensor. after a short time the oil will build up on the sensors delicate wires and possibly cause a running problem. just pony up the 150 bucks for a new factory air intake or try the local napa type auto parts store

I would agree with the Jiffy Lube guy. There are cold air intake kits that will virtually fit on any vehicle, just make sure you get the correct diameter tubing for your application. It just attaches to the MAF, and should come with a replacement air tube, and if it doesn't, you can get them at most auto parts stores. Just unbolt and remove your filter housing, and remove the air tube from your MAF, then put the new K&N parts in.
