I have a 2005 dell and it is starting to have major trouble reading dics.Sometimes I put in a game and not only is ther no auto play, but when I try to open it manually it says theres no disc.

I want to just get a new cd drive but do I need a particular cd drive for my particular model PC or are all CD drives Interchangeable?

Typically CD drives are interchangeable unless your drive has a special faceplate. You can pretty much slide the old one out and slide the new one in, that's it.

all drives are interchangeable, just read the manuel and make sure you have the jumpers in the right location, just go to the store and get a generic CD/DVD drive you should be fine

For the most part, most commercial and readily available drives will work with any machine, however, if you know your bus speed you can get the one that works best in communicating with your computer. I doubt you will find a Mac only drive, but it is a possibility, and older drives may not work with XP or Vista drivers.

CD drives are all interchangeable. You just have to make sure that you install all the drivers first that is all.

Your problem isn't the CD or your drive, dude.... you got a Dell.

best bet is to contact dell, give them the necessary info, that tells them that you are really you, and see just what they recomend
