Does every charter bus coming from mexico get searched at the border, or does the red light, green light random policy apply?

Currently you are required to take all your personal items, get off the bus and walk through customs showing and telling what you have purchased in Mexico and all your luggage as well.

The bus is completely gone through and all baggage areas inspected. They check all wheel wells and under the bus. they go through the entire inside of the bus.

After you have gone through customs, you go to a waiting area outside. The bus after it is inspected is driven to where you can again board.

The process generally takes 45 minutes to an hour depending on those in customs and the amount of inspections.

My advice:DON'T EVEN THINK OF BRINGING ANYTHING ILLEGAL ACROSS!

I live on the border of Texas and Mexico. I have gone through the process many times

If you are thinking of smuggling something back here... like dope or booze... think again... they search bus loads very efficiently and if you're carrying... I am going to say its about a 60% chance you'll get caught ! Good luck !
