Well, it's not the president's or the government's job to do anything about obesity. What they can do is suggest that everyone that is overweight and concerned about it to follow established safe practices for losing weight. They can also suggest laws that would control things such as the use of trans fats in fast food eateries. Agencies within the government will generally establish such rules but very seldom do they become law.

Obesity is a big money maker.

If you were president Insurance Companies would have helped you get elected. As President you could get Farm votes and improve the financial gain from obesity by promoting the consumption of Pork.

One way to help child obesity would be to ban junk food and advertisements promoting such foods in public schools while raising physical education requirements.

Gym class now is extremely relaxed compared to the past (when you actually had to work up a sweat) and many schools not only sell junk food but sell advertising space on school property to those companies. Even though children are learning about nutrition in class, everything they see outside the classroom promotes poor health.

There is little else you can do, short of forcing people to eat and controlling what they serve children. On the other hand, I consider feeding your child nothing but fast food as a type of abuse that can place his or her health in serious danger. Though unrealistic, you could say such "child abuse" would become illegal.

encourage people to park farther from the door. eat less fast food. exercise. talk a family walk at the park instead of sitting on your butt watching tv or playing video games. but do nothing to force anything. it's not the governments job.

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA . . . instead of the governement controlling health care and giving it away free why don't they create public health clubs. free to all tax-paying americans and give tax breaks to those that use it. lets take a pro-active stance against health problems. I SHOULD RUN FOR OFFICE!

I'm against the government making up laws that restrict what we do in an attempt to make us morally, physically, or socially "better". So they should start in an area in which they already control - public schools. Bring back PE and recess, promote participation in school sports. Provide wholesome meals in the cafeteria.

I would shut down liberal schools for teaching kids that the President is responsible for the little things like obesity. Obesity is a lack of "personal" responsibility and for the federal government to get involved in our personal lives like that is as wrong as Communism.

Maybe your teacher was talking about the President of Weight Watchers?

Nothing, except to urge and encourage Americans to lose weight and to be physically fit, and set a good example in that regard.

Please do not suggest any kind of laws to "fix" the problem.

Nothing. If Americans want to be lazy and fat and get diabetes that is their problem not the governments.
