Yes it is fair to write a song to a woman/man... and it is fair play to try and win her/his heart. If the other person is married/committed... there is no integrity/honour in pursuing someone already in a relationship... if they will fool around with you, they will fool around on you.
My husband wrote me a poem almost 30 years ago. I loved it and still treasure it. We read it now and then, and we both think it is so sticky sweet and sappy, but I love it.
My advice, go for it. You will get major brownie points for it.

If this man is being honest and sweet by writing you a song..then it's a good thing. I'm not too sure why it would be a problem in the first place. If a guy is willing to pour his heart out to you in a song...he sounds like a keeper.

i recall the great singer songwriter david gates (of bread) telling this story........
i was 16 and deeply in love with my best mates girlfriend....so i wrote a song about her and printed 200 copies on vinyl single.....i took them all around los angeles radio stations and that song became my first hit and launched my career
the girl? i married her and am still married to her 40 yrs later
