i need help. i need to put 5 items in. 2 of which are not mine. one has to be a national item [like the american flag, but i cant use that] and a global /world item [ex. a flu vaccine] but i cant come up with any ideas for both. the national one needs to be for the USA.
do you guys have any ideas and then like 1 or 2 reasons why i should put it in there? i can put anything in it, even a ferris wheel or space ship.

as for the nat'l item -- how about a hologram of a bald eagle. It would be significant for two reasons...one it is an american symbol....two, since this is for a time capsule, it would show future lookers what the probably extinct bird looked like.
as for a global item, how about a cargo ship's log...it has been all around the world, will have info about a variety of cargo like what nations grow what etc.
other items should be specific to our age and try to cover as much ground as possible...for instance, the space shuttle you mentioned would cover technology as well as space exploration.
perhaps one of the items could be "many items". What I mean by this is that one of the items could be a photo album of many pics or a dvd with a wealth of different info on it.

Unless you are talking pictures - there's no way you;re going to get a space ship or ferris wheel in there..., and a vaccine? You just are'nt being too clear.
What are you putting in the time capsule? Pictures, video or what??
