Gig, what textbooks say that. because i was told by two different pediatricians and what to expect the first years also gerber.com and beechnut.com that solids can be introduced at 4-6 months depending on the development of your baby. i just wasn't certain about juice. also YOU ARE NEVER SUPPOSE TO INTRODUCE VEGETABLES FIRST. it goes in order, apples, than bananas, peas, read what to expect, the first years

Juice should not be introduced until a year old. If your feeding a 4 month old fruit and cereal already sounds like you're going to do it anyway though ... so i suggest diluting it well. Else you're going to have a very uncomfortable infant. Solids should never have been introduced before 6 months of age. Especialy fruits, they tend to have the higher allergic reactions in babies when introduced too early and can cause some serious digestive issues. Cereal can be introduced at about 4 months old but just rice cereal. You go from rice cereals to multigrains and then cookies. Then to vegitables. Then to fruit. Then fruit juices by the time they are a year old. I guess every baby is different but this is what textbook says.

The AAP recommends waiting until infants are 6 months old before introducing 100% pasteurized juice. Yet, not all juices are the same. According to recent medical studies, 100% white grape juice, such as Welch's, is easier for infants and toddlers to digest than pear or apple juice.1,2 This is because 100% white grape juice does not contain sorbitol (a hard-to-digest sugar-like compound), and has an even balance of fructose and glucose (two easy-to-digest natural sugars). This combination allows for better absorption–it's gentler on babies' stomachs.

In addition, research shows that infants with a history of colic are sensitive to the juice they drink. In the most recent research, children were more likely to re-experience some of the symptoms of colic after drinking apple juice than after drinking 100% white grape juice.3 In another study, 100% white grape juice was better tolerated by young children during recovery from diarrhea than either pear or apple juice.4 Experts know 100% white grape juice is the gentle juice.

If the baby has already had apples, he/she can have apple juice. I would dilute it 50/50 with water though. In fact, I would dilute the juice 50/50 until 1 year or older.

And you can give fruits AND vegetables at 4 months. Some say wait til 6 months, others 4 months. But you can start fruits and vegetables at the same time, as long as you give one new food at a time and watch for allergies.

I would say that is a little too early.

There is no real hurry to introduce juice as the sugars can rot their teeth, they don't know how to brush them so that can cause some problems.

Don't be in too much of a rush to introduce everything...there will be plenty of time to do all that.

All the best

If you are already giving her stage 1 foods then you can give her apple juice but....if you are making 4 oz. then put only 2oz of juice and the other 2 of water because it is too sweet!

My kids never had juice. Juice is high in calories and promotes tooth decay. I don't know why that has slipped by so many parents. Rule of thumb - eat your fruit and drink water. My kids always had fresh fruit and they always drank water (I never gave them formula or milk in a bottle.)
