Avast! Home Edition is very good.
Not sure about Mcafee but Norton isnt really that good... not compared to Avast!... I used Norton, it caught 2 viruses, okay, good, I try Avast, it catches a whopping 10 other viruses Norton didnt even know as there! And yes, I made sure Norton was up to date before I tried that
If you get Avast!, you will get a free 60 day trial, but then you need to register it... Just hit register and all you need to put in is your name (I only put my first name) and email address, then do the security code, and you will get an email containing the registration code.
People use Norton because they don't know there are more virus definitions that they dont use, Id suggest getting avast!, then going to download.com and downloading some high rank spyware, rootkit catcher and theres one more thing I forgot...

Most of the big anti-virus companies talk with each other to stay up-to-date. Norton has been really big over the years but I'm partial to TrendMicro. I work in the Network Security field and over the last year they haven't let me down. Versus Symantec and McAfee who sometimes have incomplete descriptions and half-assed solutions. Trend does allot of research before submitting info but they haven't sacrificed timeliness.

I have Norton Internet Security, and have never had a virus infect my system, or a hacker hack it.

Basically the free viruses usualy get 90% of the viruses, while the ones you pay for get 98-99% of the viruses.
