Im 13 and started my period in Noember...I use tampons now, but they usually are very hard to get out and hurt...sometimes to the point where my eyes water lol. I know this happens when the tampon is too big, but I am extremley petite, but have a heavy flow (I'm talking like 4'8) what is the best tampon to use for this problem?

Maybe you need a smaller size tampon. Check the store where you are purchasing them and see if they have a brand for teens. Maybe the O.B. brand will work for you.

Also you can go the pads and just use those for a while until you're older then go back and try the tampons again.

Your question is not embarrassing, it's normal. I had the same question and luckily, I had an older cousin that told me all that stuff. But as for the pain, usually it would hurt if the tampon did not have enough to absorb according to its type. Try using thin and extralong pads with wings and change it every 3-4 hrs at least. That would probably be more comfortable for you, and I understand that you feel the need to use tampons with certain outfits, but do try to use the lightest possible with the liners, tampax pearl has worked for me. But really, since you're so young, I would just stick to pads and use tampons only when you're swimming. Hope this helps!

Lets make sure you understand that the virgina can spread to the width of a baby's head which is much much bigger than a tampon. If you are using tampons, make sure that you are using the right absorbant. You just started so what you might consider heavy might not be heavy. You are suppose to wear them 4-6 hours. If at 4 hours the tampon isnt full (you see the white cotton) then the absorbancy is too high. When it is full, you wont have any problems pulling it out. Now, remember the canal of the virgina has a slight curve/hump to it and when you pull it out you will feel it pass by the curve. That should give you a tingle rather than a shot of pain. Once you have sex, you will come to recognize that tingle or when you go to the OBGYN. They have instruments that when they are removed it give that same feeling. "Have a happy period"

Ok, girl I am going to tell you what works for me and you can take it or not. I am not a nurse or anything so if you don't trust this answer than that is OK. I use the smallest tampon I can find(tampax usually a purple wrapper) and change it often and just in case of a heavier flow I use a panty liner.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd just use a pad. They're so much easier, and don't cause you any pain. Also, tampons are worse if you keep them in too long.

At 13I don't think that I would let my daughter of this age use a tampon. Just stick to the pads for awile, I know that they are uncomfortable. But you will get use to them!!!

Just use a pad, they are very absorbent nowadays and thin. You just have to change them more frequently during the heavy times, a slight inconvenience but much more comfortable and no tears.

They make special tampons for teen girls that are much thinner and more comfortable for when you are just starting your period.

IF it hurts its probably in wrong, or you may be using the wrong size. Just use the pads, they make them thin enough and long enough, for heavy flows, just make sure you change often.
