Depends on which one.

He discovered that the sun was at the center of the solar system by observing the phases of Venus as it revolved around the sun.

He discovered the four "Galilean" moons of Jupiter, so named in his honor.

He discovered the value of g, the acceleration caused by gravity (not with two balls dropped simultaneously from the leaning tower of Pisa; in his laboratory, he used balls of different masses rolling down inclined planes - it was easier to make accurate measurements that way).

He discovered that momentum is conserved in systems of colliding objects (actually an extension of Newton's Third Law).

There were many others. Those are the ones that come to mind at the moment.

What he did was prove things that we now know are true. Therefore, I like what he did.

Tragically, he recanted his astronomical discoveries under threat of torture by the Catholic Church. But he was placed under lifetime house arrest, during which he made the discoveries in mechanical physics. In this way the Church unwittingly assisted him in disproving many of Aristotle's theories of motion, which the Church accepted because they were consistent with the theology of the day.

He did a lot of important things in the field of Physics, Astonomy....and also Science Philosophy.
In fact he invented the telescope as a scientific use of an exinsting object, with this he discovered that planets and moons are not spheres but they are irregular( this was important because this was contrary to the old conception of the universe.)
he discovered some of the jupiter satellites, so this was the evidence that not all objects orbited the Earth, he observed the surface of the moon....
He did also important experiments of physics, his is the first relativity law, about different reference sistems, he did experiments about pendolum, gravity, and he did the first attempt to determine the speed of light(with 2 men with a lantern and a pendolum, spaced of some kilometers) of course this was impossible because he had no instruments suitable to do this, but he was the first that asked himself if light had a finite speed or it was istantaneus.
But probably the most importan thing is his contribute to the modern scientific method, that is the base on which the entire modern science is built on.
In fact it's relatively simple to find laws when you can follow a procedure to validate, but at that time, Galileo and others had also to invent a method that could make them sure that their conclusions were true, so he was the father(also Newton, but later) of modern science.

He discovered that there are mountains on the Moon, that Jupiter has its own moons, that Venus goes through phases like the Moon, that there are dark spots on the Sun and that Saturn has "ears" (his telescopes were not good enough to show the rings for what they are).

Outside astronomy, he also discovered how falling bodies behave, falling at increasing speed from the moment they are dropped. He discovered that a pendulum takes more time to complete a swing if it is longer and less time if it is shorter.

I like what he did because it is good to be knowledgeable about the world instead of ignorant. I don't dislike what he did at all. Why would I?

He is often credited with inventing the telescope. This is only half true. Another person invented the telescope technically, but was only selling it as a novelty or toy. Gallileo was the first person to see it's potential as a scientific instrument and to use it to look up at the heavens and catalog what he saw.
