What was the impact of the Honeymooners on sitcoms of today? (I don't want to know which shows it inspired, I need to know how...I'm looking for something deeper)

If you guys have any helpful sources on the internet that would be great!

I think it was more an influence to the sitcoms of the 50s and early 60s, but some things that continue would be:

Ralph was the guy next door, always wanting to do better, never actually achieving any major success in life. Occasionally having the insight to realize everything he really needs in life he had, a home, a good wife and good friends. Alice was a loving wife, often frustrated by her husbands foolishness, she always loved him though she didn't always agree with him.

Norton was the most free spirit in the show, added to the comedy of the show by helping to keep it light hearted. Trixie was the trustworthy neighbor.

Let's try to fit a modern sitcom to this pattern, how about Home Improvement ...

Tim has had better success in life then Ralph but still wants "Something more' in Tim's case it's more powerful tools. His wife, like Alice, often finds his choices silly but still stands by him.

Al would be Norton, good natured, light heated and a good friend.

Trixie's counterpart would be Wilson the neighbor, always there to be confided in, share secrets and offer advice.

Incidently the Honeymooners started as a skit on the Jackie Gleason show, it was so popular it was given it's own show making it one of the earliest TV "spin offs."

Though you didn't want examples of shows it inspired I always found it interesting that it was the inspiration for the characters in the Flintstones.

I am assuming you mean the old honeymooners. I remember bcuz i was 5-7 yrs old (i am now 27). They made a Honeymooners w/ black people. Anyway, all I got from it was Ralph was abusive 2 Alice, she stayed home, and he worked. I guess there is no impact. Just think of it as a Lifetime movie/sitcom back then. Does that help? Bcuz do you see any sitcoms with (not shows) with abuse or domestic violence in them?

Some feel it was the first more "realistic" depiction of married life. Alice and Trixie didn't clean the house in high heels and pearls, for example.

It gave a strong voice to married women in the ways that ALICE would eventually even the score with RALPH.
