Generally, yes, for clothes. You do USUALLY need to be a MINIMUM of 5'8" to be a SUCCESSFUL FASHION model. Now, there are plenty of OTHER modeling jobs you can do if you are NOT so tall. For instance: SOME print work (catalogs, brochures and such), sometimes require smaller, more petite models. You could model shoes (heels?), hand/ foot models make a VERY good living also, as do "face only" models advertising like facial waxing for salons, or "permanent make-up and such! So, to answer your question, you don't HAVE to be tall to be a model, but it depends on what kind of modeling you're looking for.

depends on what kind of modeling you plan to be in. agencies prefer runway models to be over 5ft 9in. but if you are just going to do catalog modeling it depends on the catalog, for instance if your doing like a surf catalog, they might not need someone tall, just someone who looks like a surfer and has a nice body. get it? good luck!
