some are just die hard that its a sin, some just can't picture themselves with someone of the same sex and are disgusted by the thought, some get the misconception that all gay people might try to recruit them to their "team", some think in order to be gay you must be a pedophile....the list goes on and on. Too many misconceptions and not enough that they are just like everyone else just prefer to be with someone of the same sex do to their own chemistry.

It's funny you ask. I happened to go to a gay bar last night with some friends and they were worried about bringing me along because they weren't sure how I would react. I think that society has a hard time accepting gay couples because it is not part of what is considered the "norm." It has to do with it being more out in the open. People aren't sure what to think about it. I say, who cares? If straight people can be miserable, gay couples should be able to be miserable too!

Because its different and its weird, its the opposite of natural. Conscientiously everyone knows its a "NO NO" even those who participate in it. Have you ever had "thoughts" or wanted to do something that your conscience said was wrong. We've all either listened to our conscience or rejected it. In this case, these people have choose to reject it. Their reasoning for this is "It aint hurting nobody". In the long run it will and thats what people have a problem with it. They believe it'll effect society negatively and they don't like that fact. It just doesn't sit well with people who believe that man and woman should be together. This country (USA) was founded on Christian values, one of those values is, "Homosexuality is wrong and is a sin". So I can understand why people can't accept gay couples.

Still isn't 100% acceptable in society.Really depends on were you live also, If you are in a very rural conservative town you will most likely have the problem of acceptance and will have the risk to be victims of hate crimes.

On the contrast, if you live in a large gay community, large city
( that is growing) or a well-known gay population, you will have many people accepting the gay- lifestyle.

Although, its now accepted more than before. Almost everyone who was gay before the 1960's was in the closet.

Because to most people, homosexuals are viewed as deviants. They fall into the same category as a pedophile, a necrophiliac or someone who's into bestiality. Its not ok for someone to have sex with children, animals or the dead and to most having sex with the same sex is no different. Its not about ignorance or religion, but there is a level of digust that people feel in the presence of sexual deviants. I've seen people puke at the sight of two men kissing and it wasn't because they were drunk or that their stomache was upset, it was the sight of seeing two grown men passiontely kissing each other that made them feel repulsed and extremely digusted that made them sick. The flat honest truth as to why society don't accept gays is because their sexual preference disgust them. There is a double standard though, because lesbians are more socially accepted than gay men especially to straight heterosexual men.

Organisms in general have a drive to reproduce, humans are no exception. It takes a man and a woman to have children naturally, it doesn't work for same sex couples obviously. People don't see it as what nature intended when they see two people of the same sex together. Or at least I think that is maybe (one of) the reasons many people see it as wrong, even if they don't realize why. Just a guess.
I should also add that religion sees it as wrong, and morals from religion often become mainstream even with people that don't have a religion.

I think that with all the other reasons people give for not accepting gays, the real reason is this: In a world with all heterosexual relationships, one only has to worry about attracting (or repelling) half the world. So the same-sex group is sort of a safety net if one wants to talk about relationships and such. But if people are gay, then anybody could be flirting with you. Nobody likes to deal with someone flirting with him that (s)he doesn't want to be with.

It sounds harsh, but I think that's a possibility. Personally, I have no problem with gay people. I think gay couples can be very cute, and alone, gay men are good to talk to about my guy problems because they are guys, but they will never be jealous.

People are scared of change and accepting gay couples in main stream society is a big change for many people.

Ignorance.
And most Christians say that the bible says it's wrong, and therefore God hates homosexuals.
But the way I look at it (and I am a Christian) is that homosexuals were born with that sexual orientation, just like heterosexuals were born with a heterosexual orientation (last time I checked, I didn't CHOOSE to be heterosexual-homosexual people are the same way; for the most part we can't control our desires and feelings) and because they were born that way, it means God made them that way, and God doesn't make mistakes. Everyone was made different for a reason.

i can't speak for society but i can speak for myself. i don't agree with homosexuality because i have be taught that it is wrong. but i do accept it. i know that is exists and you don't have control over who you love. whether they are of the same sex or different race. i have an older sister who is a lesbian and i accept her decision to be with another woman. i love her very much. i don't see why they have the ban on marriage because homosexuals aren't hurting anyone. it could be because of religious reasons that society doesn't accept it but i really don't know. but todays genereation accepts it.
