Nondisjunction.

Nondisjunction causes chromosomes to not separate when they should:
--One gamete gets one too many chromosomes and any zygote/offspring from that gamete joining with a regular gamete has an extra (trisomy because they have 3 of that chromosome instead of the 2 they should have).
--The other gamete doesn't get a copy of that particular chromsome, and any zygote/offspring from that gamete joining with a normal gamete is missing one chromosome (monosomy because they have 1 of that chromosome instead of the 2 they should have).
