I go to Ohio University and my experience has led me to believe that both factors are important. One statistic that college emphasize is their retention rate, which is the percentage of first year students who continue attending that school in the second year. They also report how many extra-curricular groups exist on campus, and want their students to win lots of awards. By having an acceptable GPA and a few extracurriculars, you are telling a school that you can contribute on both fronts: that you will be a successful student who will not fail out, and that you will be involved in the community and promote the schools image. Another factor to consider when weighing the importance of a GPA is that it is not a static indicator of academic ability, since some states and some particular schools are clearly not as reputable as others.

Basically, a high GPA is never a bad thing, but extracurriculars signify an attempt for personal development and societal contributions on your part. Good luck!

Colleges look at a variety of things -- GPA, and the courses that you took (ie honors and APs?), your standardized testing scores, your extracurriculars, community service, sports participation...awards, examples of leadership, ability to pay, and other variables like where you live, your race, etc.

Some schools set an extremely high bar (you have to excel at everything and then some), other schools are able to admit more students and therefore have a lower standard/bar.

In my opinion, you should go to the best school you can/get into, assuming it works for you, is a "good fit." ... location, size of city/town, number of students, size of classes, majors offered, etc.

You should be able to calculate your GPA (search on this site, I've seen people run through the math on that before) or, indeed, your latest transcript should have that information.

Extracurriculars are very important if they have a group of students who all have about the same GPA they will look to see the extracurriculars and alot of colleges look for well rounded students. As far as the GPA goes does it say on your last report card if not go and check with your counselor.

colleges go with a tremendous kind of scholars, and they go with scholars who participate in a tremendous kind of events (you should assert properly-rounded). From what you indexed, you ought to be fantastic. although, do not forget that your precise 3 colleges are very selective and aggressive, and colleges are taking in a lot less and a lot less scholars each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days (and there are further and further applicants). even as you should exceed all criteria, there is not any assure as with all college. save on with to at least one you sense comfortable with. save doing properly the subsequent 2 years, and that i wish you the finest of luck!

Grades, level of classes, and SAT/ACT scores. Extra cirriculars, reccomendations, essays aren't even looked at by some colleges, but you should have them anyway, you will need them to get into a higher level school. If you can get a leadership role in an extracirricular, it looks REALLY good.
