a character's name in my novel is Kimmi (she is of Chinese ancestory) but i don't wish to directly have this known in the novel, as it is not important. By the spelling of this name though, would you, as a reader, guess that she were Chinese?

No, not really. Though I did have a Chinese teacher with that name ^_^

Hmmmm, I think I would guess that she had some sort of Asian backround, but you could try dropping other subtle hints, like, um....... I really have no idea. But I think Kimmi would be just fine. If it ever gets published, maybe you could have her picture in the cover art. ^-^
