Well in order to solve something you would need it to be equal to something. I'm assuming that perhaps you are supposed to put the terms into simplest form? If that is the situation then you do the following.

42a-77 (do you notice that both 42 and 77 are divisible by 7?)

Pull out the seven and simplify:

7(6a-11)

there is no answer. thats not even an equation. in odrder so there can be an anser an = sign must exist
