If you work hard/smart and can handle the political climate in a corporation you can get to the higher levels in a company.
It is true that women on average earn less than men in the same job. It is getting smaller but it is still true.
Just go for it and do not let people tell you can't. Some of the best ways to get to the top is to get a higher education from a top school.
Ultimatly you success is determined by how well you communicate and how well you get along with others. Being techincally sound is good to but not alwyas the most important aspect of your career.
