I'm an elementary education major and I am a junior. I have recently realized that I don't have much for my resume. I have worked since I was 17 but it has always been bartending or serving in restaurants. I really wish I had lots of experience working with kids. It's just really hard for me to find the time to volunteer to work with children because I'm always working or doing school work. Do things like helping with vacation bible school help? If I volunteered over the summer to read books to kids and maybe do small activities with them would that be good? I need some suggestions please!!
Thanks!

volunteering will help...try doing an internship or even work at an afterschool program to gain experience...when u do u can add that to ur resume...remember employers want to see how much experience u have when applying for ur desired job...so u want to have something under ur belt that will separate u from the other candidates...go to the local library and ask if they have programs such as reading to kids, also hospitals may have something similar...also try working at recreation centers that have kid-focused educational programs...gud luck!

Write a functional resume listing the skills that you have acquired that are transferable to a teaching job.
You might go to your states Division of Employment local office and take a one day course on how to write one. After you have written one they will review it and give you ways to make it better. And work with you to find a job.
You might want to work at a summer camp or a playground program this year for experience.
I would suggest you stay away from doing a Bible camp as it is none of their business what your religious beliefs are and it is against the law to ask that question.

non credit courses and volunteer work are excellent additions. you can also add a skills section to highlight skills you have without listing the source (school or work); always arrange your resume so the most applicable stuff is first (in your case i'd put skills, education and volunteer work before employment info).

Having to have experience with working with kids is good, but sometimes if you don't give a good impression in forwarding a good resume, I doubt that potential employer could even give you a chance to even try on the job itself.

My resume was prepared for me. My one fear is that someone will check it out and I'll be an ex CEO.

Exxagerate and lie as much as you can. Or, fake it until you make it, as some may say!!!
