Let's just be honest here. Like those women in that book who cut off their tongues. I am not saying that it is untreatable but, baby, you are a headcase. And we all have one in our family.

Very sick. Even an animal, in the wild, will not willingly remove a body part unless they are in danger.

Some people willingly castrate themselves or have mastectomies for no reason other than they are ill.

If you're talking about transsexuals, then strictly speaking they don't remove any body parts. Male to Female transsexuals have a surgery that inverts the penis in on itself. And technically speaking, they are currently listed in the DSM IV. The research shows that no form of talk therapy is helpful to these people, whereas a VERY large majority of them are completley satisfied and live very happy lives after the surgery, once they get to relate to the world how they feel they should.

Well, transsexuality (gender dysphoria) is considered a disease, but not a disease of the head, but rather a disease of the body- the person is born in the wrong body, and by fixing it, they are rectifying the mind-body divide.

The problem isn't in their minds, but in their bodies.

Hope that helps and you can learn to treat the subject with sensitivity.

No, there is a huge difference in those who are transsexual and those who simply mutilate themselves because of a psychological problem.

Wait a minute, is this a trick question? Because if it isn't, it was neither filling nor appealing.
