Try finding that feeling in your body; that helps create a certain distance, you're not so identified with it.
You can also try ridiculing it as though it was just a corny joke. Again this makes it less real. Like all of us, they feed a lot on their self-importance :).
Such feelings have their disadvantages but they're also quite an indulgence. You don't have to be witty, energetic and responsible and they put you in a more reflective mood which can lead to important insights.
But of course, they can also be destructive so it's really good to learn to be their master and not their slave.
Good luck.

Sometimes Sadness is our bodies way to tell us to slow down and deal with something. It helps me to remember that it's not always bad to feel sad, but to give myself time to feel bad. For example, after something big happens- good or bad, I might then feel sad for a while- it's just my body's way to recuperate.
But, if I do need to stop, it helps sometimes to remember that it's just a feeling- like hunger. I don't have to listen to it, or react to it. I can feel hungry but it doesn't stop anything I do.
And then sometimes we need to fake it till we make it-- meaning never stop doing anything due to our sadness. We can't let it keep us from doing anything. Even when we're hungry- we still do what we need to do- same with sadness- we need to be with people, do the things we normally do- and then maybe we'll eventually feel better.
There have been times when none of that worked- and taking some medicine for it from my doctor helped.

I play music and dance and sing in my living room by myself. I even get a "pretend" microphone. It's a lot of fun and I always feel better afterwards.
Butter Pecan icecream can do the trick for me also!!
