i've heard that there are breeding farms in Africa but they are restricted to sell to other countries and everyone i talk to about the black arrowanas say that they are endangered and that i cant get them.

You cannot purchase these fish in the US unless you have a license for them. These are CITES protected fish and cannot be bought, sold, or kept in the US without appropriate licenses.

Buzzfly is right. They are endangered and illegal to own privately. Also correct that they are difficult to house and care for properly. They are available on the black market which is a terrible shame as it will only push them closer to extinction in the wild. IMO, anyone buying or selling them is very, very irresponsible.

Yeah, they are really cool and hopefully will be available to those people willing to spend the serious cash to maintain them at some point in the future.

Yep, they're endangered and illegal in most areas. They get so big they need a 1000 gallon tank, so its rediculous to sell them to the general public anyway.
