Well you have to do and see the usual things that make San Francisco unique.
~~ Ride a cable car (if you don't get a seat you need to hang on for dear life)
~~ Visit Lombard Street the curviest street in the world.
~~ A day wandering around Fishermans Wharf and Pier 39, watch the elephant seals (they're very noisy, when awake!).
~~ Take a bay tour and visit Alcatraz ( I think both you and your Mum would enjoy that).
~~ Enjoy the atmosphere, colour, sights and food of Chinatown.
~~ At your age you would enjoy the Bay Area Discovery Museum, a one-of-a-kind indoor/outdoor family museum under the Golden Gate. It's hands on fun!
~~ There are many bus tours of the city, the Presidio and over the Golden Gate (that's a must).
~~ San Francisco has many fine museums, lovely gardens and parks.
~~ Finally, it' nice to just wander downtown too.
There is quite a lot of street art and performers; many lovely old buildings and great stores for shopping.
