I am trying to do a science project on hydrogen, but i want to know a good way to produce it effeciently, like making electrolysis more effecient or something like that.

If not this, do you have any other, unique ideas on a science fair project?

Thank you.

Well, it depends on how you mean "efficient". On a large scale, the most cost-efficient way is to just react natural gas, as is being done.

In the long run, the most environmentally friendly is through electrolysis.

Ideally, if we are to live off of hydrogen production, the best way to do it would be solar-powered electrolysis. Solar power is renewable, and technically the only truly renewable energy source. Electrolyis emits no greenhouse gases.

The problem there is that solar power is extremely expensive to set up, and it doesn't appear to be too durable yet.

You are asking the single most important question that is being totally overlooked in the discussion of fuel cells. Simply, where does the hydrogen come from??? This is a critically important question and is a great subject for a science project.

You may want to contact the various automotive companies that are promoting hydrogen fuel cell technology and ask them what will be the source of hydrogen and what will the be energy economics of producing that hydrogen.

Best wishes and good luck.
