Is Mexico a dangerous country?

Im from Nuevo Leon from a town called sabinas hidalgo, and its been a while since ive gone, but ive heard that that there has been alot of crime and stuff, and i dont know why, because when i use to visit my grandma it was a very calm place, and now i have doubts about going, so has it gotten more dangerous recently?

Border towns are dangerous, more increasingly so in the last few years. But once you leave this "border belt" and get further south outside the city, it's fine. I lived in Mexico for almost 2 years and I NEVER felt in danger, anywhere...except Mexico City, and the border. I would say most places are no more dangerous than any big city here. The only thing that makes them dangerous is if you are wearing a big sign that says "I'm RICH!!" You know what I mean? A foreign car, or lots of jewlery, or nice clothes. ....unless it's DF, and then you just feel in danger no matter what. :)

Okay, how 'bout downtown DC? Is it dangerous? Let me check...YES! How about New York??? Or the US in general. It's not the increase of crime, but the increase in media coverage. Anywhere could be dangerous for you. I'm from Puerto Rico, I've only been in the states for 5 years now. Crime has increased, but this is how it is all around the world. There's more opportunity to see things on tv, newspapers, etc. Therefore it will always seem as if it was really bad.

It depends on where you go....it depends on what part of the city or town you plan on visiting. I think every city in the world has it's "wrong side of the tracks". Maybe you should ask your relatives what life is like there.
