It depends on the type of crickets. Field Crickets are very strongly attracted to light. Camel Crickets on the other hand are attracted to dark area's. And, House Crickets are attracted to trash.

Common house crickets, the ones most often used as prey items for reptiles, are not attracted to light and seek security within the darkness.

Im not sure about crickets, but I do know moths aren't attracted to light, they are actually attracted to the darkest point. That is behind the light. I actually just learned that.
