Several years ago I work for an office furniture installer and I was working at the state comptroller office where this young lady about 20-25 did only about a half hours worth of work the whole day. Most of the day she was stuffing junk food in her mouth while doing one of those circle crossword puzzles.
It was pathetic to see tax dollars wasted like that.

1st off, most are really good, but the ones who aren't are definitely of the "me generation"....when I was young, if IF I showed up, it was 100%, but I was off chasing windmills a lot...but some young people are smug in their education and really don't put in much effort...i am an engineering tech, I have a civil education and 25 years experience, but the "kids" I work with want the laurels without putting the effort in....maybe it's human nature.......but when the bosses look me in the eye and want for an answer that takes effort sometimes I dive into the problem so deep i forget to breathe sometimes...the "kids" are good for a "from the hip shot"...I am a government employee (road construction) maybe the bad ones I see really should spend some time working for private firms to develop good work habits...or they believe that having a government job is an ego thing for them and they think that it's suppose to be cushy or something.

Well it depends on if the job is actually your career then you will more likely care about it, if not it's just another job to get $$$ , remember our world is surrounded by money and power if we don't one of those things or both, we don't do a damn thing. Thats why some jobs like retail it's hard to keep people.

Goofing off, messing things up when they do "work", etc.
It hasn't been "lately", either. The "Me" generation has been going on since the '80s.
