There is a huge price range depending on what you are looking for. You can find llamas for as little as $50 at exotic animal auctions but oftentimes they have bahavioral problems caused by mistreatment or lack of training and are not suitable for much of anything. The other side of the spectrum is the top quality show animals that go for thousands. A general idea would be to plan on spending at least $300 or more on a good pet quality gelding that has had some training and has a nice temperament.

Where I am (wisconsin) registered llamas are about $500, unregistered are about $250.
The cost isn't buying them- it is taking care of them.

I believe Alpacas and the other two rare species cost more, but I don't see those for sale.

There is only one type of llama

it just depends on if they are registered or not. my boss bought 2 non-registered males for $250 a peice. he also bought 3 registered females and 1 registered male. they all cost $400 a piece. i think it depends on where u live. this was the price my boss paid for here in kansas. i have priced them here before and they range from $50 and up... i hope this helps u.
