Ok heres my setup...

-I have a computer connected to a wired network in my home
-It conntects to the internet via the wired network
-This computer has a wireless network adapter in addition to the wired one

I want to use the wireless adapter to create a wireless access point for my
house without buying a wireless router. I want to share the internet
connection from the wired network over the wireless adapter so that I can
connect other wireless devices to the internet.

Can someone please explain to me how to do this

Thanks!

You can do what you want, sort of. If you bridge your wireless and wired networks on your computer this will allow you to share your internet connection with another wireless computer. But, unlike connecting an access point to your wired network which would allow you to connect multiple wireless devices to the network, you will only be able to connrct one computer at a time.

This is because the wireless card used in computers is only able to connect to one other device at a time. This is know as an Ad-Hoc network.

You will also have to manually set your computers IP address and subnet when ever you connect to the network because there is no DHCP server built into windows.

Believe me when I say it will be way less of a headache if you just go buy a wireless router and replace your wired one.

As far as I know you cannot do this with a single wireless card. If you had two wireless cards you may be able to concoct such a set up but I really have no experience in such a set up. I would recommend just buying a wireless router or access point instead. It will save you time and frustration in the end.
