You need to define what you mean by criminals. Currently there are over 2 million people incarcerated in the United States... of course you might want to be more specific on your definition of incarceration, do you want to count people on house arrest, or work release? If you mean how many people have criminal record, the number would be much higher, though I am not sure what it is, since anyone who has been convicted of even a minor offense would have a criminal record.

I assume you mean the number of criminals currently incarcerated. I recommend that you try the United States Department of Justice at http://www.usdoj.gov. It's likely to be in there somewhere.
