My doctor has told me that I need to have my daughter on solids (rice cereal) no later than 6 months old, however, my daughter doesn't want anything to do with it. She completely ignores every attempt I've made to feed her solids. I've tried many different types of rice ceareals, fruits, & veggies. Even with no distractions around, she just looks everywhere but at the spoon or me. Its like she's deliberately ignoring me! I don't know what to do to get her interested. Help please!

just act real casual about it-- as if it isn't any big deal. don't get mad/frustrated if she doesn't want anything to do with it either.

you should try giving her a little bit of applesauce or another food of that texture on her "binky". keep dipping it in & then let her suck on it for a few minutes. this way it gradually gets her used to the taste & texture of foods.

also, different brands have different textures and flavors among the varieties of baby foods. so, try different brands of baby food. try them yourself to see if you would eat it. rice cereal-- yuck! i wouldn't eat it, so why would my child want to?

i would suggest that you keep trying every few days. just buy the really small jars of baby food.

Every baby is different, keep trying just don't get frustrated the baby can feel your emotions. Also try making the cereal with formula instead of water or what ever she is used to the smell and taste. You might try making it thinner and cut a larger hole in her bottle nipple at first. She may be more comforted with something she is used to. GOOD LUCK.

Start with really dilute rice cereal (like 1:1 with breast milk or formula). Brush the spoon against the baby's lower lip (which will signal her to open her mouth). Then pop it in. Chances are, it will come right back out the first couple of times, but keep trying.

First of all STOP giving her different things. Her digestive system isn't mature enough to start taking all kinds of solid foods. Start with rice cereal. No she will not "like" it at first, it has a different texture than formula, but you KEEP offering it. Eventually she will get used to it, then you SLOWLY start introducing other foods, oatmeal, after a few weeks bananas, a few weeks later, applesauce. You don't bombard her with everything at once.

Just keep trying...all kids are different.

Maybe she is just happy with the bottle.

YOu could reduce the amount of milk you give her everyday. And make sure she gets tummy time execise to see if that twill make her get hungry. And next time you go to give her a bottle give her cereal instead.

well your doctor knows the books, but your daughter knows her body... Try her off with rice cereal made so thin it can go into the bottle and slowly thicken it

aslo, in case of food allergies.. you are only supposed to introduce one new food every 4 -6 days
