Darvocet is a combination of two different types of pain medicine (acetaminophen and propoxyphene) and is used to treat mild to moderate pain. Federal law prohibits the transfer of acetaminophen; propoxyphene to any person other than the patient for whom it was prescribed.
Propoxyphene (related to codeine) is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics. It works by changing the way the body feels pain.
• Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of propoxyphene.
• Together, acetaminophen and propoxyphene are used to relieve pain.
• Darvocet may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Darvoset is for pain. Some people take it due to pain caused from an injury and it is very addictive. Your relative might be addicted to the drug. I might try talking to a school counselor to get advice on how to talk to your family member. Unfortunately if her mother is an alcoholic then she is addicted to a drug as well and that is where she learned how to find ways to control her pain, whether it is physical or a mental fix. It could potentially hurt your relative badly, seek advise from a professional.

Darvocet and Darvon-N have been used for years by doctors to help patients withdraw from Heroin and other strong opiates. They are not supposed to prescribe it for that reason specifically, so they prescribe it "for pain" during withdrawal. I believe it is similar in chemical structure to Methadone, but much milder.

it is a powerful pain killer. They are also very addictive. Substance abuse is known to be hereditary. An intervention with family and close friends may be the way to wake your friend up, and possibly her Mom too.

It is a mild form of pain killer. I had to use it for cracked ribs. I only used it for a couple of weeks cannot understand why Dr would allow her to use it all the time.
