At my last OB appointment my doctor said he'd "knock a week of my sentance" and only let me go to 39 weeks max. Last time I had a horrible delivery. My son was huge at 9.8 lbs and 21 1/2 inches. I tore in four places (2 in and 2 out - I know tmi). Sorry...
I had complications from the delivery including pain, hemrriods, and loss of control of my bladder and bowels.
I'm wondering, should I take the induction?
Last time I went into labor on my due date at exactly 40 weeks. My son already had a bad bowel movement. I'm scared for another delivery like my first. But, even more scared when I hear horror stories of inductions.
I used primrose oil and pelvic rocks. I did yoga the whole pregnancy. I'm thinking if I keep doing those things maybe I'll go early on my own.
Got any advice?
(Due July 7)

Don't believe everything you read. There are many people on here that have no experience in being induced that like to try to scare people out of them because they think its wrong and not natural. I've been induced 3 times and will be induced again not to far from now. I too have larger babies. It is not terrible. I go in they register me, all the paper work gets done, they start the pitocin, I go into labor, a few hours later they break my water, shortly after that I have a beautiful baby in my arms. I didn't even need stitches with the last 2 and they were 8 lbs 6 oz and 8 lbs and 8oz. My oppinion? Do the induction. It will be alot better than having a 9 or 10 lbs baby :)

I know alot of people are against inductions and believe you should just let nature take its course, but I'm not one of them. My second baby was 9lbs 4 ounces, so I know all about the pain before and after the baby comes out. If there is a next time for me, that baby will be coming atleast a week early, my first was 7lbs 13oz so at the rate im going the next one will be 11lbs.
But honestly, no one can tell you what to do, if your ok going a little early I haven't heard any horror stories about being induced that took away from the happiness and joy once that baby does make his/her way out. If you would rather let nature take its course your braver than me! What ever you decide Good Luck and Congrats!

Due in July, and they are already sending you down this road!? I have a history of huge babies, too. I was high risk, and they recommended c-section first, but I refused. Then they recommended induction, and I accepted at 41+ weeks. You have a proven pelvis...all of the things that come along with delivering are not going to magically go away if you get induced (you have to do your Kegels to strenthen your pelvic floor, and squats!).
There is a statistic that says 55% of inductions end up in c-sections anyway. That's a big number. You may want to consider perenial massage so you don't tear next time (it works, I think!).
Good luck!

Sounds like both of my deliveries. I tore from my anus to the bottom of my clit with my first child. I tore from my anus to the to pof my clit with my second. I even had an episiotomy with my first and still tore. Not to mention the 36 hours I was in labor with my first and 26 hours with my second. Both were meconium(they had bowel movements during delivery). My girls weren't even huge babies. They were only 6lbs 9.5 oz and 7lbs 2.5 oz. Did I mention I was induced both times? I'm not saying it will happen to you again, I'm just saying an induction might not make a bit of difference.

No! Your baby will come when he is ready. Anything you do to mess with normal labor will only make any problems worse. The complications you describe are likely due to a bad position during pushing, not the size of your baby. And meconium is more likely when your baby is under stress, which is more likely during an induction.

I would have the induction at 39 weeks, assuming you're not attempting a VBAC (vag birth after c-section). It can be very dangerous in cases of VBAC. You could ask him to strip the membranes at 38 wks.

Normally I would say no but for medical reasons that you have stated I would suggest yes. Good luck inductions aren't too bad just get an epideral early and all will be fine!

Nope no advice but I think I would prefer to be induced rather than risk all that pain. I'm just not good when it comes to pain.
