Kingdom of Heaven - amazing slice of the 12th century and the Crusades

Robin Hood - the silent, Douglas Fairbanks version

Robin Hood - the early talkie, early technicolour, Errol Flynn version

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - the Kevin Costner version

Robin Hood - the Patrick Bergin/Uma Thurman version that was released in Britian the same as Prince of Thieves, easily the best of the lot

Robin Hood - the animated Disney version (my introduction to the Robin Hood legend)

Lady Grey - late middle ages, Tudor era, but wonderful film

King Arthur

Excalibur

Tristan & Isuelt

Beowulf & Grendel - the new one, film in Iceland that came out last year

The 13th Warrior - interesting take on the Beowulf legend

The Vikings - with Tony Curtis and Kurt Douglas

Eric the Viking

The Lion in Winter - the original Peter O'Toole/Katherine Hepburn version

The Lion in Winter - the Patrick Stewart/Glenn Close remake

Hamlet - the version with Mel Gibbson and Glenn Close

Braveheart

A Knight's Tale - a ton of fun!

The Sword in the Stone - animated

The Name of the Rose - Sean Connery, Christian Slater

The Passion of Joan of Arc - another silent movie, one of the last ones made. Really innovative for it's time.

There is a King Arthur movie form 1981 called "Excalibur" that is probably one of the best period movies Ive ever seen. Another movie is The Name of the Rose with Sean Connery. One of my favorite movies in this genre tho has got to be Ivanhoe. I'm talking about the older version with Robert Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor that was made in 1952. I dont mean to be picky but Troy and Alexander arent even close to being Midieval period films. Likewise Im assuming you are looking for historical fiction and not cartoons or comedys.

You could try:
The Lord of the Rings - great trilogy, definite Medieval tones, but I'm not sure you're also into fantasy.

King Arthur - I've not seen this, but it looks like an epic retelling of the legend of Arthur.

A Lion in Winter - Classic film!

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but there's kings and queens here!

Robin Hood: Men in Tights - Farce film; it's funny enough.

Monty Python & the Holy Grail - Same as above. Skip if you're not into comedy.

A Knight's Tale - Ditto.

Shrek & Shrek 2 - Do animated knights, kings, & queens count? :)

You could also look for Shakespeare adaptations, esp. Hamlet, King Lear, & Henry V.

Hope this helps! :)

Two of my favorites are from the early 50's, "Ivanhoe" (1952) and "Knights of the Round Table" (1953). Both starred Robert Taylor and had excellent musical scores & beautiful scenery.

First Knight from the 90's is good too. Stars Sean Connery and Richard Gere.

Hercules is good also.

Then there are the others everyone else has repeated already.
