will it just fucntion with my 2Wire router at home?

Any wireless product will operate with any free Wifi. Plus you notice that your speed will increase too if next to a WiFi hot spot. So when you go home and it slows down, nothing is wrong or broke.

Chances are it will function with any current wireless network you run into. There are differences between networks related to speed but they are almost always backwards compatible.
The only obstacle you may run into is if the "free wireless network" isn't actually free or they require you to sign up to use it.
