i had this problem too. for years. i've gotten a lot better though!
the best advice i can give is to MAKE SURE IT'S PROPERLY HYDRATED/MOISTURIZED!! for this, you'll need an excellent moisturizer. i recommend Complex 15 Lotion (you can get it on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Complex-15-Therapeutic-Moisturizing-Lotion/dp/B000056KK0/sr=8-3/qid=1170030672/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/104-3553339-7103968?ie=UTF8&s=hpc ) this stuff got 5 stars on Amazon. it's really fantastic. just use it twice daily, after cleansing, and don't let your face dry completely before you apply. (that locks the moisture in.) i love this lotion. in fact, over the past two months, it's cleared my acne!!!
and like the other girl above me said, harsh facial care products will make it worse (as they'll be drying out your skin). use gentle products, and don't overwash. don't use harsh scrubbing cleansers/exfoliants. PAT your face dry, or air dry.
also, temperature: warm/hot air inside a building, hot weather outside, hot showers, etc., will all contribute to redness. take lukwarm, SHORT showers, keep the temp in your home moderate, and try to stay out of the outdoor heat.

Don't get embarrassed and blush. Or you could use green makeup. It'll tone down the red.

IT COULD Be rosacea it causes your face to get red, see a dermatologist they have medican that can help
