Ok, here's the problem, every now and then after I shut doen my computer I can't power it back on. When I press the power button, the amber light above it flashes, but the power does not come on. This usually lasts about a week, 2 at most, then it starts up normally. this is very frustrating and unpredictable. What could be causing this? Is there anything that I can do to stop this from happening? Don't want to take in to a shop yet, I would like a less expensive alternative. I appreciate any help I can get. Is there any way I can get my computer back on????

power supply might be going bad, have you upgraded at all? adding more devices than what the power supply can handle? get a new power supply and install it (there cheap) wouldent hurt to try that before taking it to a shop, if it still has trouble, ask here again, or google search the exact problem do some research...good luck!

My best guess at this problem is, your CPU or RAM may be seated incorrectly. First try popping the sticks of RAM out and put them back in carefully. Then turn on the PC. If it powers on and you don't have that problem then its fixed. If its your CPU then pop the CPU loose and reset it back into its correct position, if that doesn't work it maybe your Hard Drive, CDRom drive. If its the CDrom disconnect it and try powering it on, you will get an error saying your drive isn't connected, dont worry about it and continue on to windows. If that was the problem you have a bad CD-Rom drive.

If all else fails, take it to a shop OR be constructive and find a friend who has a kid that works on PCs or just find a friend who knows a bit about PCs

Since it starts up properly in two weeks, its sounds like an issue that is related to static charge components.

I would recommend first to look at your motherboard manual to see what amber lights mean. Different manufacturers have different signals for their warning signs.

If you don't have a manual then try replacing the system clock battery.

I agree that the power supply is probably the problem.
If it was my computer I would try that first or ask someone that knows a little about computers to look at it for you.

you may be putting your computer into standby instead of really turning it off to come back from stand by hold ctrl + alt+del

if that isnt it, it may be that the jumpers on your motherboard are dirty or faulty or not connected to the other jumpers. this is easy if you know the inside of a computer

i dont know but it could be several things: power supply, viruses, memory card going/playing up, operating system corrupted. So if it could one of them i would get it checked out by a technician
