Hockey is ALWAYS about positioning, where you are on the ice. Always think ahead. Brett Hull couldn’t skate worth jack. He even said it himself. His mother taught him to skate. He knew WERE to be on the ice.

At your size you probably are pretty fast. If you’re not then start looking at “power skating”
Making the most of the stride etc…

Improve your movement on the ice. Strive to be the best horizontal mover

Upper body conditioning. Thin people can produce muscle mass quickly, but you have to work harder at keeping it. It will also make you more hungry and add a few pounds. Jagr was really upset in the early 90’s. People were dragging him down ALL the time. He went through a vast upper body conditioning program and now he pulls 2 or 3 guys along and still scores the goal.

Look at
Joe Sakic.. In 1990- 5’11” at 185lbs
Dallas Drake 1993 6’ at 170lbs

Hockey TODAY is about speed, transition, vision of the ice, passing. Oh wait, for the most part, nothings changed.

Good luck,
See ya in the NHL

work on being faster and more mobile then anyone else. Those are 2 separate things- faster is obvious, but mobile is really how you play. If you can move the puck well around others who are not as quick on their feet, you should do well. If you can sidestep a check, that can give you an advantage, because whoever tries to check you will be out of it for a second. If you're the most nimble person on the team, that can be used to great advantage- you can get in better positions for passing, receive passes, avoid defense, so on and so forth.

but you can't do that just by being light. you have to work out and practice.

Practice, Practice, Practice......never give up. Try to be faster, and quicker, not just skating but quicker with the hands and the stick. Look at players like Martin St. Louis.....it's his quickness, hand eye coordination, his skating, shooting, not his size. If your under age 20, chances are you will start putting on weight, slowly but surely.
