I am 16 years old. In California, I was wondering if I could drive alone to and from school if I only have a permit?

No sorry I think you have to have a licensed driver in the passenger's seat as long as you only have a permit.

It is called a "learner's permit" for a reason. You must always be under the supervision of a licensed driver over 21 years of age. The idea is that you are learning from an experienced driver.
In some states if you are caught driving alone with a permit you will not be given an opportunity to get an independent license.

No, you may not. Until you have an actual license you cannot drive anywhere alone legally. You are required to drive with a licensed driver over the age of 21. And if your driving between 12 am and 5 am the licensed driver must be over age 25. I know it sucks but work hard and get your license fast!

No, in California you have to have a licensed driver 25 years or older with you when you drive with a permit.

no, you have to have a parent or over 25 year old in the car with you, in the front seat, so that they can take control of the car in case of an emergency. once you get your licence (in six months) you can drive alone, but not with others. One year after you are issued your licence, you can drive unlimeted with other
people. Also, your permit is not valid until you have started your driving lessons with the licenced instructor.

A permit enables you to drive a vehicle, usually an automobile, only with an adult licensed driver by your side.

You have to be with a licensed driver and can only haul 2 passengers at a time and 1 of those has to be related to you.

There is a reason it is called a permit and not a drivers license.

Permit holders still have to have a license driver with them.
