is it a good thing to be telling people you use a website full of hacked programs, movies and tv shows which are being used illegally?

Dustin your answer as to why he posted about a site that is full of hacking programs and illegal items is true BUT you forget about things called open source, like Linux distributions.

Some people cannot afford server space and bandwidth to have people download huge 648MB image files or 2.5GB image files, and so they use bit torrent distribution. Which is the cheapest way a company can send out open source files.

"BitTorrent is designed to distribute large amounts of data widely without incurring the corresponding consumption in costly server and bandwidth resources." - wikipedia - BitTorrent

As to why Pirate Bay is down. I don't know, but try using TorrentSpy or MiniNova if you are looking for open source files, if you are not in search of open source files I recommend you don't Pirate anything. It's illegal, and a crime that can have a hefty penalty.
