An average score on the new SAT is a 1500 out of 2400 (many people are unaware of the addition of the new writing section). A "good" score is a 1800, which is approximately the average score of students from large state universities.

An AVERAGE SAT score is in the 900 range. Anything over 1000 will get you noticed by LOTS of colleges but you will need to check and see if the college in which you are interested might also require an ACT score in addition to your SAT score.

There is no "good" SAT score. Different school have different average SAT scores, so looking at what other students at your prospective school have scored can help you gage where you stand. Princetonreview.com will tell you the average scores for each school.
