I've seen people tell you not until 4, 5, and 6 months of age. Go to Gerber and check out their website and it tells you right on their that you CANNOT go by the babies age alone.
The right time isn't based solely on your baby's age. It's based on physical and developmental signs of readiness. Ask your doctor if you have any questions. All babies are different and some babies need more than just formula before they reach 4, 5, or 6 months of age. My son was eating baby food at 3 months and was eating so much table food by 8 months we were told to take him off the formula because he was getting plenty of what he needed from the table food. He is almost 13 months and as healthy as can be, a great eater too.

Rice cereal is ok for a 4.5 month old. other baby foods shouldn't be given until 6 months of age. A lot of doctors will tell you NO solids should be given until 6 months of age, cereal included, but every baby is different. If your baby has tollerated the cereal fine thus far then try some of those cookies and maybe some multigrain cereals. Stick with the grains until your baby is 6 mos old and let her digestive system mature enough to handle the veggies fruits and meats. Vegitables are the best to start with, it's harder for a baby to digest the fruits and meats. Plus once she has the fruits, you'll never get her eating the more bitter veggies.

I gave my son a little bit of cereal in his bottle too. The pedetrician said it'd help with his spitting up, and it did.
Usually at 3-4 months most pedetricians will advise to start on solids. I started my son on rice cereal. Once I knew he was fine with that I started on yellow veggies. I started with squash and moved from there. They say it doesn't matter the order or if fruits go first. Just so baby gets a variety.
Make sure you spoon about 2T in another bowl and save the rest in the fridge. If baby saliva gets in the jar you'll have to throw it away as baceteria will grow rapidly. And, baby won't be able to eat the whole jar quite yet. ;)
Also, start the new foods in the morning. That way if she does have a reaction to a new food it will happen during the day, and not at night when your trying to sleep.
Once you see she's doing well you can make your own at home. I'd make baked sweet potatoes and give Hunter part of ours. I'd also make squash and carrots the same way. Even baked apples with raisins and nuts and spices (cinnamon and nutmeg). Just put them in the food processor and your set. Homeade food for baby! Did the same thing when he started to eat protein. And, it was cheaper than buying the jars and so much more fun!!
This is when it all starts to get fun!

DO NOT feed cereal in a bottle you should ALWAYS spoon feed. After she has started cereal for about a 1 week try fruits. They told me to start off w/ bannans and then wait 3-4 days in between until you start the next fruit. After they have tried all the fruits you can move onto YELLOW veg's and w/ veg's you should wait 4-5 days before you start a different veg's. Then you can start w/ green's. Best of Luck

They say 5-6 months but if she is eating that much in a bottle then yes I would start with baby food. Remember to start with Veg. first and do each one about 1 week ( 3-5 days) then after that go to fruits.

My twins are 4 months and that i have not feed them any nutrition. i am going to commence making clean home made puree's at six months. some thing else is quite a lot sucks and there is not any authentic factor. i have under no circumstances in my life heard of abdomen soreness yet i am going to't imagine that ever occurring. She would get the runs and an disillusioned tummy before everything yet ought to get used it. try making home made nutrition for her.

Hi
My first child needed that bit extra on top of her milk from about 9 weeks of age. I started her on baby food and she was fine.

I was told that around 4.5 to 5 months is a good time to feed babies cereal in their milk.

We recommend waiting until 6months of age before introducing baby foods. They are not needed until that time, and for allergy reasons we suggest you hold off until then.
