Not many places in Africa are politically stable. South Africa is, but suffers from relatively high crime rates.

Cape Verde is politically stable and has low crime
Ditto Sao Tome e Principe
Reunion Island, which is a department of France, as well as Mauritius and the Seychelles - all geographically part of Africa - are politically stable with relatively low crime (in the case of the Seychelles, practically no crime at all).

The problem with getting crime statistics for Africa is only five or six countries in the whole continent (including the Seychelles), actually makes statistics public! The crime rate, especially the murder rate, in South Africa is alarmingly high, but bear in mind that 99% of crimes are committed against citizens and not visitors, and the majority of the victims not just know their attackers but are related to them.

Morocco and Tunisia have relatively low crime rates for Africa - Algeria is completely out of the question. Egypt's not too bad, especially around Luxor (which is very small) and the Red Sea resorts.

Crime is abysmal in all. South Africa is the most stable. Keyna isn't too bad. Many of the northern ones have some stability. A lot of the middle ones are well fcuked up.
