After you or whomever showers, you have to leave the curtain open so the shower area can dry; mold/mildew breeds from moisture. And of course clean with bleach or a cleaner that has bleach in it every once in a while.

After taking a shower, make sure to gently shake the excess water off the curtain. Make sure that you don't leave the bathroom like a sauna... open the windows. Also, don't leave wet curtains bunched up... spread them out. It's not 100% guaranteed to prevent all mold, but it does help. Plastic shower curtains mold because of the environment. If you take time and dry things out a bit, you will see a difference from this shower curtain from your last.

Good luck.

As many of these people are saying, after you shower CLOSE the curtain (many are saying "open" but I think that gives the wrong impression.) Close it meaning extend it all the way across as if you were taking a shower. This keeps the curtain from holding water in the folds of the curtain, which is what causes the mold. Also, if you spritz it with "Clean Shower" or another similar product right after each shower, it will not only keep it from molding, but will keep it clean as well.

It's hard to prevent, but if you take it down and soak it in the tub with some tide powder detergent, it comes right off! Fill the tub with water, put a scoop of detergent and let it soak for about an hour. Go in and swish it around the tub for a few minutes. Wipe it down until there is no slimy feeling on it. Drain and rinse the shower curtain! Good luck...

Get an exhaust fan installed in there. That will lower the Relative humidity after showering to the point where mold wont grow. Best set up is where there is a timer on it and you set that for about 5 minutes exhaust and leave to go have breakfast.

Open the windows in your bathroom and open the shower curtain after showering, in other words, open it like you would if you were showering. It also helps to shake off excess water after showering.
If you specify if it is fabric or plastic I would provide more information.
If it is fabrics, wash it in your washing machine every other week. If it is plastic, use a soap scum remover and spray it on and wipe gently. You may wash it In a machine on gentle cycle but do not put in the dryer.

I bought the Scrubbing Bubbles shower cleaner. Start with a clean shower. After every use, close the curtain, push the button and, voila, your shower, and shower curtain, have been cleaned.

Then rinse and carry close lower back up on the rod to dry. (in view that there's a possiblity of having some bleach sprinkles on your outfits even as doing this...positioned on previous artwork outfits)
