Why are you scared of it? Sure, it's messy and annoying and sometimes you feel crampy and kind of fat and tired and your mood swings w/o any reason... but you learn to cope with all those things. All women learn to cope with it (can you imagine guys trying to cope with it...ha). It's just a natural thing you have to live with--nothing to be scared of though! So don't worry. Just take it as it comes. It won't be as bad as you might think. And your own instincts will help you along. It'll be okay. ::hugs!::

Sweet Heart, there isn't anything to worry about.
Unlike someone else wrote, you will not have it monthly for the rest of your life but monthly until you reach about 50 or so.
Some experience cramps but this will only last a day sometimes 2 days of your period and then again some don't ever get cramps.
The one thing you might want to consider is whether you will want to use sanitary napkins or tampons.
Once you decide which you would prefer, you might always carry some with you so that you will be prepared when that day comes incase you are not at home when you get your first period.(You might want to even have an extra pair or underwear incase you get caught off guard the first time and mess your underwear up.)
Preparedness is the most important thing you should be concerned with and forget the fear because once you get your first period you will realize that you really had nothing to worry about.
P.S. Some of the answers you got said you'll feel fat, tired and moody so on and so on and so on. . . . this is NOT always true.
Every bit of this kind of business depends upon you.
IF and when you get these kinds of business YOU can decide whether you will let it control you and your behavior or not.
Anyone who knows me knows that I can be bitchy without all of this going on and even when this is going on in my life,no one would ever know it as it doesn't affect me the way ALOT of women will tell you or the way ALOT of women let it affect them.

I really don't know where to start I done remember my first period, which is kind of strange because I've talked with alot of other girls about it and most say there first was memorable maybe even more so then the most recent, depending if you have pads with you some times I've had a surprise period I'm not sure where it came from no pads so I was able to get a nap kin to hold me over till I could get cleaned up as for my first I don't recall it right now. I don't think it's anything you should be scared of just be ready for it I recomend have that with you at all times just in case.

There is no need to be afraid of your periods, they are a natural part of growing up. Most women have their first by the time they are 18 years old. They may be very irregular at first, as is, not at the same time each month and again this is normal. Some cramping can be expected, tylenol or ibuprofen works well for that. If you get really bad cramping, talk to your doctor as no women should have to suffer from bad cramps. Talk to your mom, aunt or another trusted female.

it can be quite scary at first, but after awhile, it gets better. It's not really a big deal. It's just natural and don't let anyone else tell u otherwise. U may think that u can't do things like swimming anymore but don't worry. U will have it for about 40 years tho (which really stinks). Just realize that ur not the only one going through this. It's a really tough time in a girls life but u will learn to adjust to it. Don't worry ok.

No, there is no reason to be scared of it. I know that women tend to complain about it but it is not as bad as you would think. Not every woman has the side effects either. If you do get cramps just take some tylenol or drink some hot tea and you will feel better. Tylenol helps too if you get a headache from it.

hi. i was scared of mine too when i got it when i was 11. I remember trying to hold my legs tight together cause i was scared too much would come out! but the truth is like my friend told me everything that is supposed to come out will. also a counselor at school told me about the coffee pot effect. which is where if you have a little bit of coffee left in a pot it looks like a little but pour it out it may look like a lot more. same with periods. sometimes it looks like a lot but it is not and it is all natural. i don't know if that is what you're scared of - bleeding - or whether it is the pain - cramps - but ibuprofen works well for that. You definitely get used to it in time.

honey, everyone is different. All women start their periods at different ages. And we all have different periods. There isn't a reason to be scared. Just keep a tampon or pad in your car in case you do start. Have you talked to anyone about this? It might help you understand it better. Maybe your mom or grandma or best friend.
I was 16 yrs. old before I started mine. And now I'm 48 and already going threw my changes. So it depends on your body system. You'll have gramps some times and otheer times you won't. Just find someone you trust and talk to them about it okey?

It's normal, so there isn't anything to be afraid of. Do you know what it is you fear? You might want to talk to your mom or whatever woman is going to be there for you as you go through this part of your life. Maybe it is a teacher or sister or even someone else's mom. Tell them you'd like to talk about it so you'll be comfortable when you get your period. It'll be less traumatic and less embarassing if you get the talk out of the way now.

no if your scared you obviously dont have it yet if you ask me its more scary not having it cuz you never know when its going to come there is nothing to be scared of seriously periods are usually predictable my best advice is be prepared have a pad or tampon and extra undies tampons might seem scary and nasty but they are a girls best friend they go inside you so noone sees your pad hanging out of the side of your underwear in gym
