i am about to start studying at monash uni (victoria), accounting and finance and am wondering how much the average text book costs and how many i need in my first year. also how can i get second hand books. thanks.

In the US many textbooks cost over $100 each. College bookstores often sell used books, if the professor says it's ok. You can also look online at places like amazon.com and half.com for used textbooks. Just make sure they will ship them to you in a timely manner - I have a student this semester (our semester started on January 24) who ordered her books online and was told she wouldn't get her books until the middle of February!

having been a univ UK student before, books vary in price depending on subject/module. here we could pay £10-15 for a book, or more if its bigger. my advice would be to try and get any books you can from cheap shops there or on ebay if you strapped for cash. also check out the student notice boards in your campus when you join, as normally students are selling there old ones from the first year etc.
