I am 15, a freshman in hs, and have had my period since early seventh grade. I am still not regular, and some months I skip. Sometimes it lasts 2 days. Sometimes it lasts over a week. Once, a few months ago, it lasted 2 days and then a few days later it came back for about a week. Is this normal or what? Is something wrong? Thanks for all serious answers.

If you are 15 then your periods probably will not become regular for a good few years yet, as your body is still maturing physically and sexually the hormones in your body won't be balanced as they should be and you shouldn't expect them to be until you are an adult. Think of your body like a new factory, when the machines are first turned on some are slower to start up, there are kinks in getting everything working together, but as everything gets warmed up it all starts working together as it should.

You are perfectly normal, you may however want to look into getting some evening primrose oil capsules, you can get these from most health stores and you take them daily to help regulate your periods. If it bothers you then you can also try talking to your doctor, but be careful not to let them put you on hormonal birth control because as well as side effects it is an extreme way of dealing with a simple problem, hormonal birth control won't solve the problem because it does not regulate your menstrual cycle but suppress it, and at your age it is important to keep your normal cycles in order to learn all about it.

Keep a calendar of your periods and discharge so you have a better idea when your period is coming – there are ways to tell exactly when your period is due even if you are irregular, but these are difficult to get the hang of, for example Fertility Awareness Method. You can get cool calendars just for this purpose like the ones here - http://www.tamponcase.com/book1.html or there are online sites to help you keep track like here - http://www.mymonthlycycles.com Your body changes at different times of your cycles, so take note of your discharge and the way you feel as well as when you get your period so you can learn to recognise when your period is coming, which will make things easier on you.

Although 'boys heart breaker' answer is rather brusque, she's right. You should go to the doctor and get a checkup. It's possible that there's nothing wrong, that you are just not regular, but it's also possible that there is something that needs attention. Tell your mother to make you an appointment with a gyn, and get it checked out. If you're worried about your mother finding out something, it's more important that you be healthy than to try to keep secrets.

When first getting your period, it will be irregular. So its normal.

If you are very worried about it go to the doctor and get a female exam done. Perhaps go on the pill to regulate your period :)

Many teenagers have irregular periods, they usually even out, but not always. There's probably nothing wrong. But if you are worried about it, ask your mom to take you to a gyn.
