First let me say I am not a "hater" when it comes to Crosby and Gretzky but the fact is both of them are dependent upon great teammates to be as great as they are. The Oilers of the 80s are one of the best hockey dynasties ever, and the current young group of the Penguins is just jaw dropping to watch. I think Crosby will have a harder time than Gretzky because of the fact the new NHL has a salary cap and the team wont be able to stay together for more than a few years. If you put Lemieux on the 80's Oilers in the open ice era that was the early 80's and put Gretzky on the HORRIBLE penguins teams of the mid 80's and make him the focal point of a team during the grab and hold 90's Lemieux holds all the records and Gretzky is lucky to have numbers on Lemieux's level. Both Crosby and Gretzky are talented but both require great talent around them.

Well see that's why he can score more then 100 points a season. Oddly enough the NHL DOES keep track after your 100th point each year. I'm not saying he will or won't. I'm saying you make it sound like that will be all the more he gets each year. If he only gets 100 then I doubt it. I don't think ANYONE could play 28-29 seasons though. I think he will make a run at the record if he is lucky enough to be as healthy as Gretzky was and is lucky enough to be on teams as good as Gretzky was.

I'm telling you, if he plays in the league long enough and doesn't get hurt like Lemieux did, he could!
However, even if he got 4000 points, NO ONE will have the profound impact on the NHL and the game of hockey like Gretzky did. Gretzky is to hockey what Michael Jordan is to basketball-incomparable. Lebron James may have better career stats, but he will NEVER have the revolutionizing affect on the NBA like Air Jordan did. It's the same thing with Crosby and Gretzky.
By the way, as much as I respect him, King James will NOT-I repeat, will NOT-win 6 NBA championships like Jordan did. Not that the Cavs won't ever be good enough, but as long as Joe Dumars is the CEO, the Deeeeeeeetroit Pistons will be the king of the East!

He is very good....but I don't think he will break Gretzky's all time point record. Unless there is a dramatic change in overall style of the NHL where offensive numbers increase. Perhaps going back to smaller goalee equipment like they had in 1980 would help.

He could possibly break them. But remember, hockey back then was a lot different then it is now. There were a lot more goals scored then there is now. Goalies have learnt many new techniques and their pads have gotten bigger since Gretzky's time so scoring a goal for a player now is harder then it was back then.

this question can easily be answered with a simple YES, he is on track to 130+ points this season. Crosby and Ovechkin will be up there on the all time list for sure.

The amazing thing about Gretzky's records is they don't even include his WHA stats.
