How to transfer MY operating system from a old hard drive to a new hard drive w/o buying a full verison of XP?

i was just wanting to know how to transfer my operating system no data just operating system from my old hard drive to my new hard drive without buying the full verison of windows xp or going to a computer person and having them do it for me.

One way, is to open up your drive case. Basically, what you can do is just exchange hard drives. I did this when one machine fried the motherboard and I had no insurance. I bought another one, but I am mr. cheapo. Well, It took about 20 minutes to exchange HDD from the computers. Then when I loaded up my new drive, everything was the way it was before. Later on, I plan to put the other drive in as a secondary.

Anyway, this is one way to do it with spending money, exchange drives. Now this is the only way I know of of exchanging OS without buying anything.

FYI, if you google "oem software" you could buy the windows XP w/SP2 cheaper than the store. I listed one URL below, but you have to shop around if you want the best deal.

A program such as Norton Ghost will make an image of your old hard drive and copy it exactly as it was to your new hard drive. All your files will be there exactly as they were on the old hard drive.

From there you would have to delete all the extra stuff you didn't want.

There is no other way without having a pre-made backup image of your operating system available.
